Description

The Mepps Aglia spinner is the original French spinner. It is the World's #1 Lure. More trophy fish have been caught on the Mepps Aglia than any other lure.

Lure size is important. The rule of thumb is use smaller lures to catch smaller fish and larger lures to catch larger fish. Keep in mind plain spinners present a smaller profile than dressed spinners, so they will appear smaller to the fish. This makes them perfect for panfish and small stream trout. Fishing with dressed spinners can produce larger fish, but, when stream trout fishing, you will probably catch more fish using plain spinners.

Mepps Aglias come in sizes #00 through #5. A #00 is a Mepps Ultra Lite and it weighs only 1/18 oz. A #5 Aglia, by contrast weighs 1/2 oz. The Mepps Aglia is extremely popular with fishermen world-wide because it will catch just about any freshwater fish and many species of saltwater fish.

Mepps plain treble or single hook Aglias in size #00 or #0 are perfect for panfish (bluegills or sunfish) and small stream trout. They are very light, however, and require a nimble rod, equipped with a light action reel spooled with light line; nothing heavier than six-pound-test. Two-pound-test to four-pound-test is better. Aglias in size #1 and #2 are perfect for larger stream trout and large bluegills, sunfish and crappies. Size #2 Aglias are also excellent for smallmouth bass and walleye. These sizes are ideal for teaching youngsters the basics of spinner fishing, as they are heavy enough to cast well with light tackle, yet they are small enough to catch a wide variety of fish.

Size #4 and # 5 Aglias are ideal for large rainbow trout and steelhead, as well as coho (silver) and chinook (king) salmon.

Fish Caught:Trout, Brown
I fished for over a week on the Bow River just a short distance downstream from the 22X road bridge and only had one or two small fish, until I bought my Aglia plain treble size 3 on the weekend.
Within 2 hours this morning (Monday), I had caught 4 fish, 3 of which were small Rainbow Trout, but the fourth was a very healthy and very fat Brown Trout weighing in excess of 2 pounds.
I am convinced that the change to Mepps Aglia is the key to my sucessful mornings fishing...........Superb Lures!

I have been having a lot of success with the copper Aglia in size 0. I have caught lots of Perch, Sunfish, Rock Bass and Brook Trout with it. It is a small fish killer. The fish totally go after this copper color.

Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Carp - Perch, Yellow - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow
I am the third generation of my family to fish this river. I use the Aglia plain treble in all sizes #0-#3 wading the river and when we use the boat I use #3-#5. We catch hundreds of trout a year in our waters when we aren't flyfishing for them and these lures are the only ones I trust when me and my buddy go kayak fishing for bass. It is the single best lure on the market today.
Reviewer:Kilinc Coskun (Karaoz River In Antalya, Turkey)
Fish Caught:Trout, Rainbow
I use Aglia #3 for Trout Rainbow in Karaoz Stream of Antalya.I use gold/red dot or silver/red dot. Number 3 is better for throwing farther and catching bigger Rainbow. Also, sometimes very small rainbow can be caught with a #3 and release again.
If you're fishing in large stream, then use bigger number of Aglia for throwing farther.
If the stream is fastly flowing, then you can send the fishing line with your finger slowly after throwing with your fishing rod. When fishing the Aglia near a tree shadow, rock, or near brush, then pull and push your rod up and down a few times and later turn your reel slowly.
When you're on or near a stream, throw Aglia against the flow (for example right or left side),wait a few seconds and turn your reel slowly. If there is a rainbow this area,it will bite your Aglia in very short time.

In England these lures are dissappearing, no one stocks them and can't be bothered to get them, I see the Comets have dissappeared from the catalog as well, darn shame, best Salmon & Trout catchers going, if there's a fish in the pool, second if not first cast guanteed.
Bring back Silver-Blue dot and Silver-Red dot Comets in sizes 3,4 & 5!!!!

Hi, well as a complete Fishing Novice, (7 weeks as of this write up), I was having trouble catching anything so I did some homework on the local fish species to see what the lakes were stocked with.

I then put a search in to find out how to catch these fish and I kept finding links to 'The worlds best Lures, MEPPS', so I clicked on one which brought me here. Well I bought #1,2 and 3 Aglia trebles to experiment with and WOW !! Things changed overnight, these things really work, thank you MEPPS I'm having great results now!
Reviewer:Sam (Snake River, Ne Rob Roy Res., Wy , Nebraska)
Fish Caught:Trout, Rainbow
This product is deadly on Trout. I know this product can take MANY other species as well. Crappie, Largemouth, Rock Bass, Sunfish, Grayling, whitefish, you name it. 16 inch Rainbow trout at the spring fed Snake River in NE, foot long Rainbows and a 8 inch Brown in Rob Roy Res., and 10 cutthroats in the real Snake River in Wyoming, the first sentence is true at least for me.
Reviewer:Derrick Broeckel (Western Wisconsin Coulee Trout Streams, Wisconsin)
Fish Caught:Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow
The #2 copper and silver Aglia's are the "go-to" bait for me when trophy fishing in western Wisconsin. The stream forage in the lower streches of rivers I fish are pretty large and the fish will absolutely hammer these bigger spinners. I have even caught large brook trout and brown trout on #3 Aglia's in those streams. The streams are alot slower than the ones here in northern Wisconsin so throwing baits that ride high in the water isn't much of an issue. Tie one on and prepare for the fight of your life monster brown trout will enhale this bait and wear you and your tackle out, its a guarantee.
Reviewer:Auston (Seeley Lake, Seeley Lake, Montana)
Fish Caught:Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Sunfish (shellcracker)
Man, this is one of the greatest lures I have ever used! My family and I went up to Seeley Lake, mostly to boat, 'cause I'm the only one who's crazy about fishing in my family. I waded into the water next to some lily pads. As I cast my Mepps Aglia out, I see a nice two foot long pike swim by. Excited, I cast my Mepps in his direction, and two seconds after it was in the water, I see the pike swallow it, and I caught my first pike. I also caught countless perch, another nice pike, and one of the biggest sunfish I've ever seen! This is one of the greatest lures I've purchased.

Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Perch, White - Perch, Yellow - Pickerel - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Lake - Trout, Rainbow
These lures are great. I tie one on when nothing else seems to be getting hits and they work like a charm. I carry sizes 1 through 4 in silver, gold, red/white, firetiger and orange and that pretty much covers me for anything I want to catch. My favorite is the #3 red/white, smallmouth and pickerel up here love it.
Reviewer:Jim Haste (Bayles Lake Near Loda, Illinois, USA, Illinois)
Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth
Love the Aglia plain treble. This lure has definitely delivered the most consistent results for many years. The Aglia has caught everything from largemouth, smallmouth and striped bass, walleye, crappie, big bluegill and even a five-pound catfish. This thing catches everything. If you want to go after only bigmouths, tie on a #3 or #4.

Reviewer:Jason Hetzel (Clinton Township, Michigan)
Fish Caught:Pike, Northern
I knew that pink colored lures are great for spring time pike. Sure enough, I tied on a #4 Hot Pink plain treble Aglia, and in came the northerns. These lures are absolutely amazing at catching fish. They will catch fish regardless of what weather/water conditions may exist.

Thanks Mepps for such amazing products!!!
Reviewer:Robert Hayett (Lake Of The Ozarks, Missouri)
Fish Caught:Bass, Striped
My fishing buddy went on vacation to Lake of the Ozarks, unfortunately I couldn't go. I bought him some Mepps #2 Aglia's with Rainbow Trout blade and dressed treble. I knew there were stripers and wipers where he was going and the water is fairly clear. I figured the rainbow trout blade (silver, blue, and pink) would be a very visible lure to an open water fish such as the striped bass. Sure enough, my buddy was in the boat for no more than five minutes when he got a huge hit, and subsequently landed the largest gamefish he ever caught, about a 15 lb striper. This isn't the first time I gave Mepps spinners to people who started catching more and bigger fish. I strongly recommend any fisherman to have a variety of Mepps on hand in different styles and colors, the more you use them the more you'll learn what works to catch fish in more situations.

I've caught many trout on the #2 Aglia plain spinner. My father passed away in Oct. of '06. We fished together about every weekend, and that is all we ever used. I am here to tell you we caught alot of fish over the years.
Reviewer:Dave Hunt (New England Rivers, Lakes, And Ponds, Massachusetts)
Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Perch, Yellow - Pickerel
By far the best lure I own, I've given up using others and stick with Mepps Silver's and Gold's. I prefer the Silver's, and the fish always bite. Its great to go fishing with someone and see them switch out lures, not catching fish, trying to "find the niche" then seeing them switch over to the Mepps spinners and never go back. Thanks for a great lure and the pounds of fish I've caught.
Reviewer:Gary Jackson (N Fork Yuba River, California)

My fishing friends and I have been fishing California's trout rivers and streams well over 30 years (Whew! Time Flys!). We are true to any product that works and there is no better trout lure available, period.
Can't say we have'nt tried the others because we are always trying anything to outfish each other, but believe me your lures(Gold Aglias #0- #2)out-perform ALL!
Thanks For The Great Memorys!

I was fishing a really nice river that had just been opened to the public using a Mepps Agila Plain Treble when all of the sudden a huge bucketmouth nailed my lure. After about a five minute long battle in a small canoe, I landed, weighed, and measured the big guy. It was about 20 in. long and weighed a little over 4 and a half pounds. I use these lures to catch anything; from small trout to huge salmon. These are one type of lure that you can count on for any situation.
Reviewer:Ron Bell (Winchester, Illinois)
A must-have, keep several on hand. This spinner catches small bluegill [hard to believe the hooks fit their mouth],channel cat, bass, crappie, striped bass, bowfin, great lure, very affordable. I have used in lakes, rivers, and ponds if it's biting this will get them. The sipping blade attracts the red tube nails them, I always have the red tube on the hook. If I could only have one lure this would be it. THANKS DAD FOR LETTING ME USE YOURS, I'VE HAD ONE EVER SINCE, MISS YOU, YOUR GRANDKIDS LOVE IT ALSO.
Reviewer:Shane Frame (Narrows, Virginia)
The Aglia plain treble is all I've ever used for serious trout fishing. My buddies and I always have trout catching "tournaments". I always win. The silver and gold work best in a size #2, although I just started using copper blades, they work just as well.
Reviewer:Dennis Lendrem (Fishers of Rothbury, England, United Kingdom)
Fish Caught:Trout, Sea/Speckled
Comfortably the most popular spinner in the UK. The simple silver, gold and copper account for some of the best fish taken in this country. Popularly used for fishing salmon and sea trout throughout the UK. These are a "must-have" on any serious fishng trip.
Reviewer:alex loubere (DeKalb, Illinois)
Fish Caught:Pike, Northern
You should seriously put pike on that chart, because plain Aglias catch big northerns like nobody's business!

Aglia #3

Waveforms of the sounds produced by the Aglia #3
The Mepps Aglia is the classic Mepps spinner. Living up to its name, the Aglia blade has a classic steady beat as it is retrieved. In fact, a musician can count its quick beat... 1-2-3-4, 1-2-3-4. It's both lively and bright. Because the French blade on the Aglia spins at a steady 60° angle from the spinner's body, its sound is also steady and very easy to hear.
