Coho (silver) Salmon Testimonials

Al Figone – Klamath, Oregon

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver) - Salmon, Chinook (king)

I bottom drag this Black Fury across river pools where Salmon school before runs up river ladders. If, after a couple days, the paint isn't coming off the lure body, then I'm not down deep enough where the big fish are. When I get hook ups it's always a fight to remember.

James Caldwell – Texas

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Grayling - Pike, Northern - Salmon, Chum - Salmon, Coho (silver) - Salmon, Pink - Trout, Dolly Varden - Trout, Rainbow - Salmon, Chinook (king)

I've been fishing and guiding on the Nushagak River for 15 years, an undressed Aglia with a Hot Pink blade will draw strikes from just about every species in the river and a #5 is all I want to throw at Coho.

At 64 I've fished extensively throughout the Upper midwest from Northern Lower Mi. to Northern Mn. and everywhere in between for over 50 years. I am never without multiple styles and sizes of Mepps spinners. They have been my "go-to" lure all my life and I've caught everything I fish for on them. They always produce when nothing else will and never disappoint. This new "Aglia BRITE is my new favorite style. It amazes me that I will catch fish with it when with buddies who are using something else get skunked. Keep supplying us with these!

Parker Brinson – Brush Prairie, Washington

Lure: Flying C

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver)

The Flying C at 5/8 and treble hook in glo pink is the best silver salmon lure I have ever used.
Limits every day with just this one lure and nothing else. Finally had to retire one after 26 fish caught on it.
Fishing the Alaska Peninsula on the Egegik River.

Bernard Schwartzman – Lost River, Situk River, Alaska

Lure: Flying C

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver)

I bought samples of Flying Cs from Northern Ireland in late 80s or early nineties and introduced them on both rivers in Yakutat. They were an immediate success!
I have been using Flying Cs almost exclusively every year since.

Ethan – Da UP, Michigan

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Salmon, Coho (silver) - Steelhead - Trout, Brook - Trout, Rainbow

I've caught so many fish with these... Best lures around, IMHO. Learn how to use them properly and they will produce bites.

Tony Scott – Chuitt River, Alaska, Alaska

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver)

The power of this small simple lure is amazing. In a low and clear stream, the #0 with silver blade was perfect for presentation around snags to fish that otherwise would be spooked by larger lures. With this one lure, we caught native Grayling and Rainbow Trout as well as the smaller Silver Salmon that ran up the stream. I never had to change my lure for the entire week unless I lost one on a snag.

Roscoe Solley – NY, PA, GA, FL, Fl Keys, EVERYWHERE, Pennsylvania

Lure: Minos

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Perch, Yellow - Salmon, Coho (silver) - Salmon, Sockeye (red) - Steelhead - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Cutthroat - Trout, Lake - Trout, Rainbow - Trout, Sea/Speckled - Salmon, Chinook (king)

These Mino spinners have been one of the greatest lures I have ever used, everything likes them, to the point that I have several of each size in three different tackle boxes. When nothing is biting on anything I throw in, all I have to do is throw one of these in and let the fun begin. I prefer the chad, but also have the Rainbows just in case the weather turns bad, seems the worse the weather, the Rainbows work better. These are also good for SEA TROUT in southern FL. Great all around lures.

Harold Erickson – Valdez, Ak.-Prince William Sound, Alaska

Lure: Flying C

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver)

I purchased (2) 6 packs of lures thru the internet from Mepps for Christmas this past year after spending 6 days on the Sound at Valdez. We were there in August and limited out every day using our Mepps.
Trolling or spin casting-made no difference.
A fantastic product I will use when we go to Alaska again in August, this year.
Try it, you'll like it.

Ryan Vanne – Manitowoc River, Manitowoc, Wisconsin

Lure: Aglia BRITE

Fish Caught: Bass, Smallmouth - Salmon, Coho (silver) - Steelhead - Trout, Brown - Salmon, Chinook (king)

I have been fishing the Manitowoc River for over 15 years now but never have I caught so many fish than on the new Aglia BRITE #3 Orange-Gold. October 5th was the first huge day as I reeled in an 11 lb. steelhead, a 7 lb. brown trout, 2 coho salmon about 5 lbs. each, 2 chinook salmon each over 10 lbs., and 3 smallmouth bass over 18". I caught all these fish on the Aglia BRITE in a span of about 50 minutes in the same hole. My go to was always the #3 Aglia dressed, but, I may have a new favorite. Either way these lures are deadly.

Randolph Morris – Nushagak River, Alaska

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver)

In 2011, this will be my 5th trip back to the Nushagak River in Alaska. The silver Salmon fishing is fantastic. One can easily catch 20 to 30 Silvers every day. Hot pink and orange in #4 and #5 always work the best with hot chartreuse as a back up. As a plus, there is always plenty of wild game and beautiful scenery to admire and enjoy. Randy Morris

Moe Johnson – Valdez, Alaska, Alaska

Lure: Giant Killer

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver)

I caught several big silvers with an orange Giant Killer over Labor Day Weekend. My wife and father used several other lures with minimal success, but the Giant Killer produced fish after fish.

John Beach – Wrangell Narrows, Alaska, Alaska

Lure: Flying C

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver) - Salmon, Pink

Two years ago my brother and I went To Alaska to do some salmon fishing for the first time. I wasn't sure what to use, so I read many articles on good lures and spinners. Well, I took a whole arsenal of tackle with me. After trying many things, I tied on an orange Flying-C with a gold blade and I hooked onto a silver salmon right away. My brother put one on and hooked one right away himself. Other fisherman were around, but we were the only ones catching anything. Everyone was asking what we were using everyday. The owner of the lodge we were staying at had never seen one before. Now, he has them in his lodge for sale. This is the third year in a row we are going back to Alaska, but the Flying C is the only lure we take with us. These spinners cast great so I can cover a lot of area. I used a number of colors, but the orange is a must with either a gold or silver blade.

Christine Cunningham – Kenai Peninsula, Alaska

Lure: Syclops

Fish Caught: Grayling - Pike, Northern - Salmon, Atlantic - Salmon, Coho (silver) - Salmon, Kokanee - Salmon, Pink - Trout, Dolly Varden - Trout, Lake - Trout, Rainbow - Salmon, Chinook (king)

In the annual Soldotna Trustworthy Ice Fishing Derby, which covers the lakes on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, I caught a "Strait Flush" (char, kokanee, lake trout, rainbow and pike) using the #1 Mepps Syclops in Hot Orange. It also caught the largest grayling on the #1. In fact, it was the exact same lure! (I never lost it) I can't say enough about how great this lure is for ice fishing although I catch fish all summer on it as well.

Ted Najzer – Trail Creek, Indiana

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver)

Well I've got to say that #3 Mepps spinners are the best for Coho Salmon here in Indiana. Anytime I'm out on the water I'm gonna be catching lots of Coho's as long as I have my Mepps. I like using single hooks for 3 reasons. One is they won't foul hook the other fish in the pool that easy. Two you can fish log jams and not snag up as easy. Three, once you get a good hook-set the spinner is not going get out of the fish that easy. Many different colors that work great for these fish. It all depends on water temp, water color & water levels. For example, if the weather has been cool with alot of rain, use #3 gold blades because the water will be high and muddy. There are many different kinds of gold blades to use. I find that "See Best" spinners with gold blades are great, as well as Aglia gold with "Red/White". Even some of the hot colored spinners are good in these conditions. Because the "Hot Firetiger" has gold on the back of the blade.

Now when the water is high and muddy look for areas with fast current and etc. Go to a deep pool, stand at the front of the pool where the most current is, cast your spinner to the back of the pool, and let the current do most of the work for you. Yes you will have to reel the spinner in, but it should be at the point where the spinner is almost ready to stop spinning. This gives the fish alot of time to decide if he or she wants to hit it or not. Most of the time they will go for it. But always keep your tip down to the water so the spinner stays down deep. Also you will get alot of very soft hits useing this tip. Always be ready to set the hook at all times. I've lost many fish due to short soft strikes.

Most important make sure when you get to the end of your cast that you keep it in the water as much as you can before you pull the spinner out for your next cast. Coho for some reason like to watch what they are going after for while before they actually hit it. 9 times out of 10 they will hit right before the spinner comes out of the water. I have even had them try to jump out and grap my spinner before. If you do this you might even get to watch the fish hit the spinner before you even feel the fish hit. That give you a perfect hook set if you time it out correct. Nothing thrills me more than watching the fish nail the spinner. Hope this helps you out in the furture.

Good fishing,

~Ted (Meppsman)

Lure: Flying C

Fish Caught: Salmon, Coho (silver)

On November 14, 2005 I went down to the Sacramento River to get a morning of fishing in. I got down to the river at about 7:00 A.M. in the morning. It was a nice cool morning, it was nice to be out on the river fishing.
I was throwing a Flying C spinner in green and at about 7:45 I hooked this 30 LB. MONSTER SALMON. It took me about 30 MIN. to land this MONSTER.
