Brown Trout Testimonials

MW – SE PA To Montana, Pennsylvania

Lure: Aglia Ultra Lites

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Cutthroat - Trout, Rainbow

The Mepps 00 has caught me more trout than I can remember. As a kid I would catch trout with the 00 in creeks in SE Pennsylvania that no one even knew had trout. I then took my fishing to Montana where I caught trout with the 00 so big I didn’t even know trout got that big in small streams. I got hooked on fly fishing and let all my 00s collect dust and disappear. I recently bought some more after reminiscing about the fun I had with them, and the skill it takes to REALLY fish them. Fished right the 00 is, in my mind, the best trout lure out there. I look forward to getting back to my roots and catching a lot of quality trout with an ultra light outfit and my new 00s. When I was a kid you didn’t call them spinners, you called them a Mepps. Thanks to Mepps for keeping these great lures around!

Lure: Little Wolf

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Bowfin - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Trout, Brown

I spent 160 dollars to get the free hoodie that was offered for orders 150 dollars. First, the hoodie and hat are excellent quality. Absolutely love them. I grew up with a father that taught me Mepps are the best. I moved to an area that wasn't great for fishing without a boat and got big into catfishing on the bottom with live bait. Well, I moved back to Michigan and realized I needed to get back into lure fishing. I thought 150 dollars might be a little extreme, so I decided to catalog the fish I caught to see if the money was worth it. Here's where I'm at a month in fishing exclusively with my Mepps order:
52 large mouth bass
7 small mouth bass
27 bluegill
12 perch
4 white bass
5 channel cats (all over 8lbs and largest at 18lbs)
2 brown trout
5 bowfin
4 crappie

All that and I've only used 5 of the lures I got so far. The only lure I used and didn't land a fish was a Thunderbug that a small musky broke off. The Little Wolf spoon has been fantastic for me. Never used spoons much but tried it out and caught fish on the first 3 casts. Don't sleep on the grab bags. Wouldn't have known how great the Little Wolf is if I didn't get it in the grab bag.

All my fishing friends keep trying to push me on other lures but I think the results prove what my father always said "Mepps is the best". Looking forward to losing enough of my new lures so I can justify another 150 dollar order.

Lure: Trout Pocket Pac - #0 Aglia Wooly Worm

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Cutthroat - Trout, Rainbow - Walleye

This trio is extremely effective for a diverse range of fresh water fish. I’ve recently caught multi species of trout in Yellowstone NP with these in size 0 and 1. Black Fury also effective. Prefer single hook for a variety of reasons. A great Go To lure of mine for many decades…especially for shore, wader, canoe/kayak fishing rivers, streams, creeks, ponds, and small lakes. One lure I know I can always toss with confidence! (Use thin, lite, line…4-6’ish.)

Charleys Outthere – Canyon Creek, Arizona

Lure: Spin Flies

Fish Caught: Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

Yes believe it or not we have excellent trout fishing in Arizona..Canyon Creek has both resident rainbows and stocked. Also, a large population of wild brown trout. The spin flies are excellent for a small creek..they spin easily and bring out the biggest fish at any time of day..I'm an avid steelhead fisherman (not in Arizona) and the Mepps Aglia #3 in gold is my choice for steelhead spinners, so when it came to the right lure for a smaller species, Mepps was my choice..12 fish both rainbows and browns caught on a 500ft stretch of creek is great by anyones standards.
Silver blade, black wooly worms, excellent all around choice.

Wayne Clark – New Hampshire

Lure: Thunder Bug

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

Must of caught 30 trout that day on the same lure. Had to keep straightening the center rod numerous times so the lure would swim right. That lure got beaten up bad. Still produced fish after fish. Great product.

Not a sole in sight, after fishing the main section and catching many fish I decided to trek down stream past the bridge. Coming to a deep hole in the back, I tie on a dressed Aglia 2 and toss it out into the limestone stream. 5-6 tosses later... SMACK! Big 24" brownie right in the corner of the mouth. Brown trout approved👌

Lure: Thunder Bug

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

My son (4) absolutely loves fishing and asked me if we could go on a special trout-fishing trip together. Having very little experience with fishing for trout, I did a bit of research ahead of time. We were going to be fishing in the Driftless Region where the streams are small enough that spin fishing is an excellent choice. The Mepps Thunder Bug let us "match the hatch" for grasshoppers and I custom-ordered a few single-hooked versions for catch and release. It was an excellent trip; with each of us reeling in a few small brookies, browns, and rainbows on our bugs.

Lure: Aglia Bait Series

Fish Caught: Trout, Brown

When I went fishing on the 19th of Jan. It was a perfect combination with a little rain and cooler around 48 degrees. The water temp was sitting about 43 degrees. I was using the crayfish single hook size 1. Had good bites and a lot of action from the trout. Landed one nice picture worthy Brown on the Jacob Fork River. Thanks to Mepps for making another great lure for trout.

I fish 5-6 days a week on my lake from early spring to late fall. Mepps spinners have always been a go to when casting for bass. Today I pulled out a Mepps from my grandfather's tackle box (guessing 30 years old.) What followed was the single most amazing hour I've ever spent on the water. In one hour, I caught over 35 fish, and more amazingly, six different types! Large mouth, small mouth, chain link, brown trout, brook trout, and rainbow trout. I'm still in awe.

At 64 I've fished extensively throughout the Upper midwest from Northern Lower Mi. to Northern Mn. and everywhere in between for over 50 years. I am never without multiple styles and sizes of Mepps spinners. They have been my "go-to" lure all my life and I've caught everything I fish for on them. They always produce when nothing else will and never disappoint. This new "Aglia BRITE is my new favorite style. It amazes me that I will catch fish with it when with buddies who are using something else get skunked. Keep supplying us with these!

Lisa Mongillo – Chattooga River, SC/GA Border, South Carolina

Lure: Spin Flies

Fish Caught: Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

I was out on a day where the fishing report was bleak and I wasn't getting a bite or seeing a single fish rise. I crossed paths with a kind stranger who asked, "What are you using?" I showed him my fancy new "Trout Magnet crank bait" that was "guaranteed to reel em' in". He took a single hook Mepp's spin fly out of his stash and said, "Here, keep it. It's the only lure you will ever need." I walked downstream as the stranger left and caught a decent 10" brown trout on my second cast. A few minutes later I caught a fiesty little rainbow. Neither fish was huge, but the stranger saved me from getting skunked on a day where the fish were hiding out. I just ordered half a dozen more in a few patterns. Can't wait to get back out there!

Campbell B Catchpole – Little Waipa Stream, Arapuni, Waikato New Zealand

Lure: Thunder Bug

Fish Caught: Trout, Brown

I have caught and landed many awesome trout using Mepps lures. A very memorable 6lb brown trout that I caught, landed & released using a white Mepps Thunder Bug. This has thankfully given me memories that will never get away. I use all of the colours of the Thunder Bug range though out the year & here in New Zealand we are lucky that most of our streams, rivers & lakes allow us to use these lures. For me being new to the sport of fishing, the Mepps Thunder Bugs allow me to match the hatch like a pro & still command the respect from even the most staunch fly fisherman because of the way my fish go back into the water after they were caught on a Mepps...... LOVE MY FISHING.....LOVE MY MEPPS.

A size #3 Mepps Aglia has to be one of the most productive lures I've ever used. I've taken brown trout on this regularly especially early in the season. Fished over shallows in lakes it's a killer!

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bowfin - Musky - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Walleye

The Mepps #3 gold with the brown tail is by far my favorite lure in my tackle box. I will not head out fishing if I don't have one. I have caught all of the fish listed above on a gold #3 with a brown tail. I typically target Northern pike, but will frequently catch Bass, and other fish, unintentionally. The best pike I ever caught was around 40 inches, but I have caught countless others over the years. Whenever someone asks my advice on fishing, I recommend the Mepps #3 and tell them that is all they will ever need.

This is possibly the greatest fishing lure ever devised, it can be fished deep, shallow, fast or, slow. I caught my personal best bass, my personal best pike, and my personal best trout on this lure. I have never had a better lure than this, the next time that I see this lure I will buy 10. Thank you, Mepps!

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Perch, Yellow - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown

The lure I reach for first, no matter what I am fishing for is a Gold size 1. It's always catching me trout at the small lake near where I live, catching my limit, even when those right near me are catching nothing. I like how it makes me look like a great fisherman by just knowing the right lure to use. People ask me what I am using and I just tell them to switch to a Mepps spinner. You made Mepps my favorite lure when you first sent me your Fishing Guide 20 years ago and I have been using them and catching fish ever since.

Mark Bell – Harwood Lake , Farmersville , New York

Lure: Little Wolf

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Perch, Yellow - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown

Have been using Mepps all my life. But, when I first bought a Little Wolf, it was gold. It became one of my favorites. First day I used it while fishing at a small lake near where I live in western New York, I caught 3 largemouth bass,at least 5 bluegill, a couple of crappie, and 4 brook trout in about a hour. I then passed it on to my wife so she could catch some fish, since the live bait she was using had only caught her a couple of bluegill. This gold Little Wolf and others that I have bought this season, have been producing every time.

Pete Wise – East Licking Creek, Port Royal, Pennsylvania

Lure: Bantam Syclops

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

Ultralight spinning for trout is my passion, and I can always count on Mepps lures for success. On a recent trip to a favorite small stream, I caught and released native brook trout as well as wild rainbows and browns...all taken on a #0 Bantam Syclops spoon in silver and red. This great lure has never let me down. It is one of my "go to" lures for trout and panfish, and the larger Syclops are outstanding for river smallmouth bass! Simply put, Mepps lures catch fish when nothing else will.

Fish Caught: Trout, Brown

Hi !
I use this spoon (silver or gold #00 to #1)for 25 years. I practice Ultra Lites in small mountain rivers. Ideal for trouts (brown) and perch. Nothing resists it! One of the only few which can turn when I fish upstream to downstream with small flow. It's simply the best!
Best regards from France)

Travis Hill – White Pine River, Cloquet River And Private Lake , Minnesota

Lure: Minos

Fish Caught: Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

I love Mepps!! I only really use Mepps, not just spinners, but, I ordered replacement Minos and use them on spring crappie and sunny spawn. I catch 3 fish to everyone else's!!! How you ask? I don't have to get a minnow out of minnow bucket! Plus, I use Mepps on fly rods with a sight indicator. Between St. Croix and Mepps I will continue to dominate anyone I fish with!!!
