My Story

First off you'll never believe this...The last couple days fishing the gravel I've been taking my spinner rod and my fly rod with me. I take both because if one method don't work the other will. Yesterday I hooked a male coho on my Mepps. The coho was fighting with another male. While I had the fish hooked the other male would not leave my coho alone and he stayed right next to him. I got curious and thought, I bet this other Coho would bite my fly. So while I still had my fish on, I put my spinning rod in between my legs and grabbed my fly rod and took a cast in front of the other male. He nailed my fly and I hooked the other coho. So I had doubles at the same time. lol I'm now fighting 2 fish on 2 rods at the same time. lol So today I decided I wanted to challege myself and try doing this all the time. Because when there is a pod of fish and you hook one, you have to go in the water to land the fish. Well when that happens the other fish spook that were in the pod anyway. So why not hook 2 instead of one. lol So using 2 rods at once I'll get one the bite set the hook let it shake it's head for a second. Then the fish hooked will just sit there thinking it got off if I get them slack line. Well that's when I use my fly rod to hook another fish next to the one hooked. Then I can land each fish. lol Well today I had doubles like that twice. But sadly it did not work out to my advantage cuz I lost all the fish I hooked this way. Letting out slack line can cause you to loose your fish. So on my 3rd try for doubles today, I saw this hen sitting alone. Just a bit downstream I noticed 2 bucks moving up near this fish. I waited for the fish to sit next to her. Then I took a cast with my Mepps, I hooked the female right away. While she was hooked I noticed 1 buck was staying with her. So I let out some slack, grabbed my fly rod. Took a cast near the buck. Right away the buck tried to hit my fly. He missed twice. On the 3rd try the hen that I still had hooked decided she wanted to hit my fly as well. So I set the hook and fight this fish with my 2 rods at the same time. I still can't believe this happened. I've never had a fish ever do this in my entire life. She knew she was hooked but was so aggressive that she wanted to bite my fly while still being hooked with my Mepps in her mouth. Crazy catching the same fish on 2 different baits at the same time. lol This is my biggest moment in my Mepps fishing history so far! Very fun and unbelievable!
