Fish Caught: Bass, Smallmouth
On Sunday July 18th, 2010, at Approximately 3:22 PM, I caught a 3 1/2 pound smallmouth bass on a Mepps Black Fury plain treble, a yellow dot with black blade. I was using a medium retrieve. I was fishing the river in about 4-6 feet of water, in shade, where the still water meets the current, and the smallmouth bass was hiding under a brush pile 10 feet to the right of where I was throwing the bait. The strike took me completely by surprise. The smallmouth hit it so hard he almost ripped the rod out of my hand. While fighting with him, he was so aggressive that he was actually shaking the reel as I was trying to pull him in, all the while jumping 2 feet out of the water. The Musky bite on the lake was slow until we started throwing the Black Fury in #5 and Musky Killer sizes. Now we regularly boat 6+ musky in a week on this lure! As a bonus, we can't keep Northern Pike off the lines while trying to catch Musky. They love these lures even more.Lure: Musky Killer

This lure is, and was my secret weapon until I left it mistakenly on the shore. I, like the others, cannot find them anywhere. I ask at every small time bait shop, large stores such as Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops, and no one has a clue what lure I'm describing. Guess it's a good thing if no one knows about them.... it'll be my secret lol. On the Mepps site is the only place I know where to get them.
