The Comet Mino is one of Mepps most popular lures. It will catch just about any fish that swims. Bassmaster magazine named the Comet Mino one of the 10 best bass lures of all time. All Comet Minos are carefully airbrushed to ensure realism. Their erratic swimming action makes them appear to be a wounded bait fish.

Comet Minos come in sizes #00 through #5. A #00 is an Ultra Lite spinner. In fact, you can get the #5 Comet Mino with either a 3" or 4" Mino.

Comet Minos are perfect for casting or trolling. Gold blades are polished brass. Silver blades are genuine silver plated. Painted blades feature a proprietary blend of epoxy and acrylic finishes. All Mepps Comet Minos run at mid-depth.

Fish Caught:Pike, Northern
I was stationed near Madrid, Spain for 6 years with the U.S. Air Force. I used to go to 3 three bodies of water near each other. All three were on the way to Zaragoza, north of Madrid, nesr the city of Guadalajara. My chief and I were out on a rubber dingy going back and forth between the river and the lake. We were both using Comet Minos and in the course of 4 hours we each caught 12 Northern Pikes apiece. That is one of my best fishing memories. Sadly, the particular Mino's hook rotted out but the plastic body is still good. Are there replacement hooks for them. I'd like to rehook it and give it a place of honor on the retired shelf. Thanks for a great product. My first ever testimonial. I still have some Mepps lures and the mini tackle box they came in that I purchased in the mid 1980s. Some are pretty beat up but still combat ready! :)

Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth - Sunfish (shellcracker)
I bought the Mepps Rainbow trout Comet Mino on Saturday 4/23 and I went fishing 4/24. I went to a spot I never caught fish at. I was really just using it to shake the rust off and it was a real open spot so I wouldn't get tangled or caught on anything. So I get there and there are three other people fishing. I ask "Hey, you guys catch anything" They said "No we haven't" They were there an hour before me. So I set up shop and I cast out "bam" big sunfish, probably the biggest I ever caught. Then, I cast out two more times, bam! Caught a largemouth bass. These guys were looking at me upset and asked what I was using, I told them. I ended up catching 5 total on the day at a spot I never caught fish at before.

Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth
I have been sick for six months. Coming from the doctor, all I had was my trout tackle in the car. I put on a Mepps Comet Mino on my ultra lite trout rod and caught a 2 1/2# Largemouth Bass. After being sick and missing half the season, just catching one bass made my day.

Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Blue - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Rainbow
I am 53 and have been fishing Mepps spinners since I was 4 years old from as far north as Fairbanks, Alaska, to as far south as Oakville, Texas. When it seems that nothing is biting, the Mepps Comet Minos sizes 00, 1, 2, or 3, always save the day as do the Aglia with squirrel tails. I saw my father catch Salmon and Grayling on Mepps while I have caught Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth bass, Spotted Bass, Guadalupe Bass, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Green Sunfish, Longear Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, Redspotted Sunfish, Warmmouth, Rock Bass, White and Black Crappie, Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish, and once a silver shad. I have caught panfish barely larger than the lure to Bass over 4 pounds. All the Mepps products are winners. They are fantastic.

I felt compelled to give a testimonial on the "go-to" lure in my tackle box, the Mepps Comet Mino. I have been fishing with this lure for 35 years and it never fails to catch fish when nothing else will. I have caught many species including: Bass, Catfish, Bluegill, Perch, Trout, and Crappie. It works in ponds, rivers, lakes, and streams. In short, if I only had 1 lure to fish with, it would be the Mepps Comet Mino! Thank you for all your quality products!

To sum up this spinner anything that will feed on shad or minnows will hit a Mepps Comet Mino.

As ridiculous as this lure looks it has caught more northerns than any other lure in my tackle box. The spinning blade attracts them while the body provides something for them to home in on so the northerns rarely miss. I used one with a #3 silver blade because that was the biggest one I could find and it caught fish. I recently ordered a big one with a #5 gold blade because I have had good luck with gold and I'm glad I did. Thanks Mepps!

Fish Caught:Bass, Smallmouth
The water was getting really low and really clear. Therefore getting harder to catch fish. So, I went to one of my favorite spots along the Schuylkill River and I casted a size 1 Comet Mino. Before this, I never caught a fish on it and was still to be convinced. On the second cast, I got him. He gave a pretty good fight for his size. He came out to be around 10 inches. It may not seem big, but its average for the river I fish. Also, it's not the size that counts, but the fun you have reeling it in.

This is the best lure ever. I have them in all sizes, even a few that used to belong to my dad. They have the best feel in the water, you can tell when a fish is even thinking about eating it. I will have this lure in my box 'til I'm in one.

Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth
The Comet Mino is my go to lure for any fishing situation. I was fishing in a large pond and had just recently bought the number 4 Comet Mino, the biggest I could find, and tried it out. I had great success 2 very nice 2-3 pound largemouths. The most dissapointing part of the day was when I hooked onto a monster largemouth (6+ pounds) and he threw the hook 5 feet from shore... but still a great day. Thanks MEPPS for making my trips succesful.

I'm completely In Love with this lure. I came across it a few years ago. And it quickly became my "lucky" lure. It's pretty much all I use. I try it right away everywhere I stop. And you can seem to use it anywhere. And you never know what might hit. I feel completely heartbroken every time I lose one. Most of the time it's been to gigantic fish that broke the line, or other faults of mine.

Imagine the surprise. We were fishing this quiet little pond with little luck. My wife switched to a #1 Comet Mino, figuring to stir up some little guys, and landed it about 3 inches from the shore and nailed into a 20 inch Bass!! Great fun!

Fish Caught:Musky
I got two Mepps Comet Mino lures a size 2 and 4 both with silver blades. The next day I rode my bike to lake St Clair and fished I was fishing with worms and not getting much. So, I decided to do some casting. I was using the size 2 for largemouth or a small pike, but, on my third cast hooked in to a 38.5 inch musky. No leader, no net, and 8lb test. Being on the end of the pier, I had to walk it down to the rocks where I grabbed it, measured it and tried to weigh it, but, my scale bottomed out at 14lb. Wrecked the lure, but. it was worth it considering I got it for free. Plan on getting more. It's a great lure, you never know what you will get with it.

One of the best spinners on the market. When other spinners failed to produce anything, I tried tying a Comet Mino onto my line. On the 5th cast, I was pleasantly suprised when I caught a 2 lb largemouth on this lure. This spinner outfished a comparable Panther Martin 10 to 1. No one else caught anything except me because they were throwing other brands. I pulled a three lb fish out of a spot my uncle had fished for twenty minutes on my second cast. I didn't tell them what I was fishing so the lure would stay productive. Caught my biggest fish ever on it too (5lbs). Hope the secret doesn't get out!

Fish Caught:Pike, Northern
This past weekend I thought I would try one of the many other lures for the first time and ran across the Mepps Comet Mino with the silver spinner on it and it was the only lure I used. I pulled in a 25" and 26" northern, a few more little one's and then a couple of large mouths. Man,. I was really impressed with this warrior.
Then I casted another time and the line snapped and away went the weekend warrior lure. I was totally bummed out!
I stopped at the local Wal-Mart at noon and they had them on clearance and believe it or not I got the last 2 units on the shelf.

I can't wait to go back up to the cabin.......
Thanks for the memories.

You name it, I caught it on this lure. I only fish with one lure because it produces over and over. The Comet is great for any condition at any lake or river. From Smallies to Largemouth to Walleye to Channel Cats to Northern Pike and even Muskies this lure just plain works. 36" Pike, 38" Musky, 5.75# Smallie are just a few of the of the fine fish caught on this lure. Good luck finding the 4's and 5's in a 15 mile radius of me, I bought them all!

My wife and I went out around sun down, tossed a lot of lures I figured I would try this goofy Comet Mino I had for years. The walleye went nuts; no I mean they went nuts! Thatís what brings me to this site I never lost my lure, and I wanted to make sure I could get a new on eif I did.

I caught the biggest fish of my life on a Comet Mino from a dock in about 3 feet of water. When I got there they all told me to use a red and white Daredevil, I tied on a Comet Mino Super Mino that my dad gave me. Some of the guys kinda snickered when they saw me put that big lure on and cast it out. They all got excited when I pulled in that big pike though. Great lure, too bad the body got chewed up and none of the stores around here sell replacements.

On any given day, no matter what the fishing is like I can cast out a Mepps Comet and catch SOMETHING. Fishing it fast over weeds and drop offs works great for bass and northerns. I have sizes 3-5 in various colors for different weather conditions.

Fish Caught:Bass, Largemouth - Musky - Pike, Northern
This lure is unbeatable!!! Truly the best lure I've used in a very long time. It will catch fish even when fish don't bite. I've caught more largemouth bass on this lure then any other I've used before in my life. Truly amazing. I average 6-10 bass per every few hours every time with just this lure. I've also landed a musky just recently on it (my first in my life) and have hooked 2 northern pike on it as well. I used a # 3 for all my fish. I dedicate my first musky catch to the fine intelligent people at Mepps for such great lures. Great job everybody!!! Keep it up!!!

I was going through old tackle boxes and found a Comet Mino from 1973 that had never been opened before. So I opened the package and walked down to the river with my pole and made a few casts. On about the fourth cast I caught a 27" Northern Pike. I used that bait all night long and caught 7 more Pike ranging from 19-26". I was so impressed with the lure that I went to the store and bought more. I never leave the house to go fishing without a Mepps Comet Mino or other Mepps products.

Bought and used a Comet 00 for trout and caught tons while other caught only few or none, liked it so much I bought a #3 and tried it for bass... First time trying it, I caught 5 or 6 bass on another lure which was my favorite, and when it died down i tried the Mepps Comet and it was the most excitement I ever had bass fishing. I caught 8 or 9 bass out of the same pond after it died down when using the other lure.. It seems they hit it even when they don't want to hit and won't hit anything else.

This lure should only be available on the black market so I can keep it more of a secret. Our guides turn to this lure when the fishing gets tough. We spray the Mino with scent and use an ultra slow retrieve to dredge up huge fish. If you aren't using this yet ... you're missing it! This lure catches more fish than fishermen. Bob Bott

I have used 00 to size 5 to catch anything that swims. I have used these lures for over 20 years and would not be without one. If I had to pack a survival kit, this would be in it.

From Redfin Pike in irrigation canals here in Indiana to Northerns in Ontario, this lure is devastating!!

I guess the best way to sum it up would be to say, "I collect Rapala, but I use Mepps!!!".

All you have to do is cast and crank and you will catch fish.

I owe my Expert Fisherman and Master Angler Awards to these!!!

I bought my first Mepps Comet 2 about four years ago. I was a little skeptical at first, but after using it through the first summer, I could not believe how many different fish that lure was capable of attracting and catching. Big Squam is a great smallmouth bass lake but has a large variety of fish. Using this lure, in a variety of ways, including casting, trolling, bouncing over rocks and even casting it out and letting it fall to the bottom!!! The fish just seem to believe it's a real bait fish and they attack it. I have caught Largemouth, smallmouth, salmon, pickeral, whitefish, rainbow, even a bullhead with it. My lure box has never been out of this lure since the first time I used it. Sometime's they are hard to find, so now I buy more when I do fine them...Thanks, Mepp's for the great lure...

The image you see behind the lure is a picture of the actual sound waves created by that particular lure.

To hear how your Mepps spinner sounds as it's being pulled through the water place your cursor over the lure photo.

Comet Mino #3

Waveforms of the sounds produced by the Comet Mino #3
The #3 Mepps Comet Mino blade produces a sound similar to the #3 Aglia blade with a couple of exceptions. Because the Comet blade spins closer to the body of the spinner, the Comet blade produces a sound with a slightly lower pitch than the Aglia blade. The Comet blade also spins just a bit faster than the Aglia blade, so the steady series of "thumps" the blade produces during the retrieve are closer together. The sounds these blades produce are similar, but, by listening to one right after the other you will hear a definite difference.

Comet Mino #5

Waveforms of the sounds produced by the Comet Mino #5
The #5 Mepps Comet Mino blade produces a sound similar to the #5 Aglia blade. However, because the Comet blade spins closer to the body of the spinner, its sound is pitched lower than the Aglia blade. The Comet blade also spins just a little bit faster than the Aglia blade, so the steady series of "thumps" the blade produces during the retrieve are closer together. These blades may produce similar sounds, but, listen carefully and you will have no problem hearing a definite difference.
