Robin Joy Ernst – Embarrass River, Wisconsin

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Pike, Northern

I am writing to you about a product that I have used for over 20 plus years, a No. 3 Mepps Black Fury spinner. I grew up on the Wolf River just out of New London, Wisconsin, and have been fishing since I was a child. A few weeks ago, I went fishing with my husband John, east of New London on the Embarrass River, in one of our favorite fishing spots. I told my husband the only spinner I was going to use was my “Mepps Black Fury” and that I was going to catch a Northern! He just laughed and said, “Yeah right!” I had never caught a Northern before, but I always had good luck with my special spinner over the years.

About three casts out, I got a hit. I was reeling the fish in. It was definitely a Northern, but as I got it to the boat, my line snapped before I could net my fish. So, I Not only lost my Northern, but I also lost my spinner. I had had that spinner for at least 20 years, and was more upset about losing the spinner than the fish. The Rest of that afternoon, I tried other spinners, but I never had another bite.

A couple of weeks ago, my husband bought me another “Mepps Black Fury” spinner. So, this past Wednesday afternoon, I made a fishing date with him. He took me to the same fishing spot we had been at a few weeks previous. This time, I made sure I had a steel leader on my line, because I was not going to lose my new spinner or any fish I caught. Of course, my husband was teasing me the whole while about that spinner. To him, a spinner was a spinner!

About ten casts out, I got a hit. It was a 23 inch Northern, which we measured and released. My husband said it was beginner’s luck. I said, “No it’s my Mepps Spinner.” Another five to six casts, I got another hit. It was another 23 inch Northern. My husband said I was just lucky. I said, “No, it’s my Mepps spinner!” My Husband had tried every spinner, Dardevle, and Rapala in his tackle box, without getting even one bite. He refused to believe that my “Mepps Black Fury” spinner was that good!

Well, about five more casts out, I got a big hit. This time, I landed a 26½ inch Northern. My husband could not believe it. In fact, his exact words were, “That’s It, I’m going to Fleet Farm to get me one of those Mepps spinners!” That was one of the best afternoons that I have had fishing. I have caught a lot of fish over the years, though I usually fish mainly for catfish, using night crawlers and a Wolf River rig. I do have several different spinners in my tackle box, but I usually only use my “Mepps Black Fury” spinner!

Thanks for making a quality product! Oh, by the way, I’m giving my husband a “Mepps Black Fury” spinner for Father’s Day.

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

I've caught many trout on the #2 Aglia plain spinner. My father passed away in Oct. of '06. We fished together about every weekend, and that is all we ever used. I am here to tell you we caught alot of fish over the years.

Dave Hunt – New England Rivers, Lakes, And Ponds, Massachusetts

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Perch, Yellow - Pickerel

By far the best lure I own, I've given up using others and stick with Mepps Silver's and Gold's. I prefer the Silver's, and the fish always bite. Its great to go fishing with someone and see them switch out lures, not catching fish, trying to "find the niche" then seeing them switch over to the Mepps spinners and never go back. Thanks for a great lure and the pounds of fish I've caught.

Lure: Musky Marabou

Fish Caught: Musky

I've been fishing for musky on a lake known for big fish since I was 13. I am now 33 and just caught my first musky. I tried all other bucktails and lures with no result. I just recently got a Mepps Musky Marabou and suddenly I had A 50 inch monster boat side . Despite the power of a 50 inch musky on a summer day, I found the lures were durable and continued to use it the rest of the day without even any adjustment. Another thing I liked about the lure was it was easily removed from the fish allowing her to fight another day. That was the best day fishing yet!

Lure: Comet Mino

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Musky - Pike, Northern

This lure is unbeatable!!! Truly the best lure I've used in a very long time. It will catch fish even when fish don't bite. I've caught more largemouth bass on this lure then any other I've used before in my life. Truly amazing. I average 6-10 bass per every few hours every time with just this lure. I've also landed a musky just recently on it (my first in my life) and have hooked 2 northern pike on it as well. I used a # 3 for all my fish. I dedicate my first musky catch to the fine intelligent people at Mepps for such great lures. Great job everybody!!! Keep it up!!!

Lure: Pro's Choice for Northern Pike

Fish Caught: Pike, Northern

All I can say about this lure is, the 2 orange ones I got now have teeth marks all over em. I have never seen a lure that Northern hit, with such violence!! In the 25 years of fishing, my dad has never caught Canadian fish "one after another" Thats because his son, me, shared my Mepps lures with him. lol Thanks to Mepps, our Canada trip this year is one for the books.

Calipso – Seminoe Lake, Wyoming

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Trout, Rainbow

I just bought the Mepps Black Fury lure then went fishing off the bank at Seminoe Lake when I caught a 16 1/2 inch Rainbow Trout, it did really well when everybody else was using power bait. I recommend this to everyone!

Lure: Aglia Ultra Lites

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

We got up really early in the morning to get us some fish for breakfast, but, for the first hour we didn't even feel a nibble. I tied on the Mepps Ultra Lite treble and pulled out a brook trout on the second cast. I moved up to where my friend was fishing and cast in and pulled out a big rainbow. He asked me for one of my Aglia Ultra Lites and in an hour and a half we went back to camp with 6 nice fish including a giant brown. Not to mention the half dozen we released.

Brett Helmbrecht – Crivitz, Wisconsin

Lure: Mepps Marabou

Fish Caught: Bass, Smallmouth - Pike, Northern

On impulse I bought a Marabou before my trip to Canada this previous summer, and since then, I have become more fired up over the Marabou than I have for any other lure before. It caught more and larger northern than every other lure that I tossed at snakes over my trip. After proving itself in Canada, it has continued to impress me by catching more noteable northern and smallmouth, than any other lure that I have ever used. Three of my top four monster Northern career catches have been made on the Marabou this past year. The key is the retrive and presentation. The Marabou allows you to retrieve the lure very slow, without compromising presentation, or allowing the bait to sink very deep. Very easy to fish it over difficult cover without concern for snags or weeds! I am sad to say it, but before I purchased the Marabou, spoons were the love of my life when it came to catching northern. After fishing with the Marabou, that is no longer the case. The first lure that I grab for now is the Marabou.
