My Story

Lake Lewisville, Texas
Wading Windy lake points in Spring. Located Shad at shoreline early morning fishing a windy blown lake point. Wading out waist deep I began casting clock-wise to counterclock-wise at the point with the sun coming up. I could see the shad popping up around me. Using a soft plastic lure, I was not even getting a bite. I turned on my cap light to see my tackle bag on my shoulder to find my favorite spinner. I use and tied on a #3 Mepps Aglia spinner. It has a silver blade with small brass slide body with a single treble hook with an orange plastic tube slid on the hook. I beagan to throw this out..counting to five as it fell..then I would reel it in with a slow retreive. If I thought it was a slow retreive, it was not slow enough. As the spinner was reeled in, I would feel slight bumps so I slowed it down more..Then BAM-SLAM-BAM..! The fish would hit this little spinner like a train!
I placed 25 nice large 16" White Bass on my floating fish stringer for some nice fish fillets. Now it is not over..I thought maybe if the white bass would leave my spinner alone and I went a little deeper to get under the whites..I may be able to catch some Hybrid striped bass this lake has an abundance of..Well I threw it out again and kept catching whites and kept throwing them back..I had all my white on my stringer tied on shore at this time..The sun was up a little and I looked around the water as the sun reflected on the surface..I began to see small water swirls just under the surface further out in the water point then I wanted to walk out too..
I got a little braver and walked step,at a step to my chest.I looked out and saw the
wash swirl in front of me about 20 yards.I made a Mepps Aglia #3 cast and let it sink to the bottom, retrieve, stop, fall retrieve it same ..same..then retrieve back same.. lure fall and --BAM-SLAM BAM!!I thought my rod was going to break and 8# pound line snap..I had set the drag loose for the whites to run..so what was on my line was screaming drag..when the fish would slow I would reel until the fish was beside me.I used a trout net I have to net this fish..I lower the net and am able to get the large head in the net to mid body section..I am now moving backward to keep from getting deeper and heading to shore. My fish in net I made it to shore..WOW! a nice Hybrid Striped Bass..I measured on my fish board 25"inches..NICE!I placed him on a second stringer and went out again..Same method as before..BAM--SLAM-BAM! another beautiful nice Hybrid Striped Bass to be blessed with..I have done this over and over in various lakes in North Texas areas with the same results for white bass..I have since purchased more Mepps spinner only now in the Mepps #4 silver blade plain Aglia with treble hook and orange/red tube..
I promise you ..If you use these Mepps spinners you will not go home with a plain fish stringer with no fish again.
