My grandfather recently gifted me a bunch of his old fishing tackle. Included in the tackle box was a few Mepps #5 Comet Minos that he bought around 1973 (or 79?). I opened one and used it all weekend at my friend's lake house in northern PA. After a few days of heavy pressure on the lake, I decided to take the kayak over to the opposite side where less people had been. A few casts later, it felt like I got snagged on a log, so I pulled the rod up to scoot the kayak over to it. When I did so, the "log" drug me halfway across the lake and then jumped out of the water. It was a huge pike. I fought it for about twenty minutes or so and finally got it to the boat. It was so big that its head didn't fit in my little net. I called my friend who was fishing the opposite end of the lake and he grabbed the big net off the dock and paddled over to me. The two of us managed to flip the fish up into his kayak and paddled back to shore. It was an awesome experience for so many reasons and I'm glad I can share it with the company that made it possible. The pike and lure are at the taxidermist now, I should have him back this spring.
