Derrick Broeckel – Eau Claire River, Antigo, Wisconsin

Lure: Aglia Marabou

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook

The #0 Aglia Marabou with the copper blade and brown body is dynamite for brook trout during or right after rainstorms. I can't begin to describe how well this particular color combination works in that type of conditions. The marabou tail works wonders, I think it pulsates and attracts fish way more than a squirrel tail. This is the best bait Mepps has come out with in a long long time.

Derrick Broeckel – Northern Wisconsin Lakes, Wisconsin

Lure: Thunder Bug

Fish Caught: Bass, Rock - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Sunfish (shellcracker)

This is the best panfish lure Mepps makes especially the #00 size. I like to suspend it from a bobber and tip with a tiny piece of nightcrawler. When you shake the bobber the blade goes crazy and it brings the fish into your bait like a cat to catnip. The panfish you catch are usually bigger than with a plain hook as well. I like the Cricket color alot as well as the all silver bait.

Derrick Broeckel – Wisconsin Trout Streams, Wisconsin

Lure: XD

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown

This is the best trout fishing lure Mepps has ever made!! It spins so easily in the water you can fish it extremely slow. The most versatile size for trout is definitely the #1 size. Its not too big for smaller fish but not too small for the bigger ones. I like the all silver XD in sunny weather and the black body with the gold blade when its cloudy. I like to jig this bait right in the middle of the cover for inactive trout. It is amazing to watch the blade when you jig this bait it spins on the fall and then spins when you pick up the bait. This drives inactive trout absolutely nuts. I have never seen inactive trout go crazy over anything like that retrieve they will strike your bait multiple times if they don't hook up right away. This bait is better than a Panther Martin because the hook is so much more durable, trust me I planted one in my face on accident. The bait also has a much better quality body than Panther Martins, the paint doesn't chip off and its brass so you don't end up like you do with a beaten up Panther Martin with a big old hunk of gray lead for a body when the paint comes off. Talk about unnatural. Thanks to the bead attractor you miss alot less fish than Panther Martin's, the fish really seem to zero in on that bead for some reason or another. I can honestly say this is my all time favorite Mepps bait.

Derrick Broeckel – Ice Fishing Wisconsin Lakes, Wisconsin

Lure: Bantam Syclops

Fish Caught: Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Walleye

This bait in the #00 size is a phenominal ice fishing bait. I use it as an attractor, I take the hook off and tie a dropper about six inches to a foot long from the split ring and add a very small ice jig. This bait works great on pannies and on walleyes when tipped with a minnow or waxie. It adds weight to get your bait down quick, and adds alot of attraction, something I find necessary especially when jigging for perch, crappie, or walleye. I have had some sucess ice fishing bluegills with this setup but it doesn't seem as productive as for the other species, the added weight may be a little too much for spooky bluegills.

Derrick Broeckel – Western Wisconsin Coulee Trout Streams, Wisconsin

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

The #2 copper and silver Aglia's are the "go-to" bait for me when trophy fishing in western Wisconsin. The stream forage in the lower streches of rivers I fish are pretty large and the fish will absolutely hammer these bigger spinners. I have even caught large brook trout and brown trout on #3 Aglia's in those streams. The streams are alot slower than the ones here in northern Wisconsin so throwing baits that ride high in the water isn't much of an issue. Tie one on and prepare for the fight of your life monster brown trout will enhale this bait and wear you and your tackle out, its a guarantee.

B. Gross – Ramapo River, New Jersey

Lure: Spin Flies

Fish Caught: Bass, Smallmouth - Perch, White - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

Great lures. They never let you down. Great when used on an ultra-lite spinning rig. At times I only use these when I go fishing. I only wish they were more readily available through local stores.

Patrick Burke – Woodlake, Kohler Wis And Sheboygan River ,wisc, Wisconsin

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Smallmouth

I have caught six northern pike this week a largemouth bass today and a smallmouth couple weeks ago. This lure is amazing I have had alot of luck with this lure I love it.

Mark Johnson – Sugar Lake - Remer, Minnesota

Lure: Comet Mino

Fish Caught: Pike, Northern

This past weekend I thought I would try one of the many other lures for the first time and ran across the Mepps Comet Mino with the silver spinner on it and it was the only lure I used. I pulled in a 25" and 26" northern, a few more little one's and then a couple of large mouths. Man,. I was really impressed with this warrior.
Then I casted another time and the line snapped and away went the weekend warrior lure. I was totally bummed out!
I stopped at the local Wal-Mart at noon and they had them on clearance and believe it or not I got the last 2 units on the shelf.

I can't wait to go back up to the cabin.......
Thanks for the memories.
Mark Johnson
