Channel Catfish Testimonials

Kevin Hurley – Muskegon, Michigan

Lure: Little Wolf

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Bowfin - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Trout, Brown

I spent 160 dollars to get the free hoodie that was offered for orders 150 dollars. First, the hoodie and hat are excellent quality. Absolutely love them. I grew up with a father that taught me Mepps are the best. I moved to an area that wasn't great for fishing without a boat and got big into catfishing on the bottom with live bait. Well, I moved back to Michigan and realized I needed to get back into lure fishing. I thought 150 dollars might be a little extreme, so I decided to catalog the fish I caught to see if the money was worth it. Here's where I'm at a month in fishing exclusively with my Mepps order:
52 large mouth bass
7 small mouth bass
27 bluegill
12 perch
4 white bass
5 channel cats (all over 8lbs and largest at 18lbs)
2 brown trout
5 bowfin
4 crappie

All that and I've only used 5 of the lures I got so far. The only lure I used and didn't land a fish was a Thunderbug that a small musky broke off. The Little Wolf spoon has been fantastic for me. Never used spoons much but tried it out and caught fish on the first 3 casts. Don't sleep on the grab bags. Wouldn't have known how great the Little Wolf is if I didn't get it in the grab bag.

All my fishing friends keep trying to push me on other lures but I think the results prove what my father always said "Mepps is the best". Looking forward to losing enough of my new lures so I can justify another 150 dollar order.

Luke Sears – Annapolis, Maryland

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Blue - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (White) - Perch, White - Pickerel - Sunfish (shellcracker)

I've been using all sorts of lures cheap ones, expensive ones, all kinds, but no other lure has worked as good as a Mepps. They can literally catch any fish. Wherever I go I take one with me because if I see a fishing pond, I know I'm guaranteed to get one with the Mepps.

Steve Eckstein – Lake Erie Tribs, Ohio

Lure: Bronze Slammer

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Catfish, Channel - Pike, Northern

I have used Mepps products for years. All of them catch fish. But these bronze slammers... Wow. The size difference is very clear. Make more of these!

Richard – Lake Erie, Rockwood, Michigan

Lure: Double Blade Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Catfish, Channel - Pike, Northern

I'm just honestly thankful these products exist. Just had one of my best days ever trying out new Double Bladed Mepps spoon/spinner, absolutely killed the largemouth. Caught some pike, small mouth and a totally unintentional channel catfish. Just turned my buddy onto these too, he wasn't having any bites and after I reeled 3 in he walked over and went through my bag for one and started landing them. Made for some awesome photos and an awesome day. Can't say enough good things about Mepps products without sounding like I'm getting paid to write this. When the fishing gets tough, I'll always carry a Mepps spoon/spinner and slap it on and can almost guarantee something. Mepps Aglia 5 treble hook single/double blades will get just about anythings attention and get you on some fish. Great lures.

John Hunter – Tinicum, Pennsylvania

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Striped - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Musky - Perch, Yellow - Pickerel - Snakehead

The Mepps number 5 dressed Aglia is my favorite freshwater lure. Its my number one lure for bass and snakehead. It catches anything that swims in freshwater!

Mike Buroni – Bartlett Lake, Arizona

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Catfish, Channel

First two casts returned two different bites, two different species. I had no idea channel cats would attack the Mepps. Good job guys, I am forever a believer.

Preston Lynn – Lake Cook, Virginia

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Catfish, Channel

Caught a nice Channel Cat on an Aglia #2 in Hot Firetiger. Great lure!

Tony Grimm – Kaw Lake, Oklahoma

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Striped - Catfish, Channel

The dressed Aglia is truly a remarkable lure. I went fishing at Kaw Lake and caught 5 different species out of the first 6 fish. Striper, Wiper, Largemouth Bass, Needlenose Gar and 2 Channel Catfish. For a lure that has been in production since 1938, that really says something about it’s effectiveness and the company that makes these great lures. I would like to send a big thank you to Mepps and the employees that work in Wisconsin and in France for building such great lures.

James T Brooker III – Squirrel Creek, Oklahoma

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Siouxriver Phelps – Bonham Lake, Texas

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow

I usually don't catch that much fish, but when I use my Mepps I catch a lot of fish of different species! Best lures in the world no doubt!

Robert Reeder – Any Where, Indiana

Lure: Basser Kit - #2 and #3 Aglia Assortment

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, Striped - Bass, White - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Blue - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Pike, Northern - Salmon, Coho (silver) - Steelhead - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Walleye - Salmon, Chinook (king)

Best Lure ever
If you dont have a Mepps Spinner might as well stay home
I have using them for over 40 years

Kevin – Culver Lake Branchville, New Jersey

Lure: XD

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, Striped - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, White - Perch, Yellow - Pickerel - Barracuda

The dressed XD size 3 with white (silver blade) and yellow (gold blade) is a killer for the hybrids. I tend to troll with these lures and it doesn't take long. It also attracts all the other fish in the lake. If it wasn't for the pickerel I wouldn't need to order so many of these :)

Bob Hayett – Heritage Lake, Olathe, Kansas

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow - Walleye

I have found that Black Furies work amazingly well in two situations: In and around rocky shorelines and reeling them fast over spawning fish. I caught nearly a ten pound largemouth last year right next to a rocky shore.

Asher P. – Private Pond, Virginia

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Catfish, Channel - Catfish, Flathead

I was using a dressed Aglia in the pond, and, "boom" this catfish came out of nowhere. I was using 6 lb test and he ran into the sticks and I got scared. I finally did get him in and he weighed 5 lbs.

Jerry – Farm Pond, Dobson, N.C., North Carolina

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Catfish, Blue - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow

I have often said that most largemouth bass anglers spend a lifetime hoping to catch at least one that weighs 5 lbs., or more. Yesterday, I was "lucky" enough to catch 4 that weighed a total of 29 lbs., 15 ounces, with the larger one being 9 lbs., 5 ounces, and the "smaller" one 5 lbs., and 15 ounces. But "the big one got away'! I hooked one which I brought to the boat, and just as I reached for what looked to be a 10 + pound fish he broke the swivel, and left with my Black Fury lure. Mepps lures are the best for crappie, and bass!!

William Jackson – Guadalupe River, Kerrville, Cibilo Creek, Cibilo, Texas

Lure: Comet Mino

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Blue - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Rainbow

I am 53 and have been fishing Mepps spinners since I was 4 years old from as far north as Fairbanks, Alaska, to as far south as Oakville, Texas. When it seems that nothing is biting, the Mepps Comet Minos sizes 00, 1, 2, or 3, always save the day as do the Aglia with squirrel tails. I saw my father catch Salmon and Grayling on Mepps while I have caught Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth bass, Spotted Bass, Guadalupe Bass, Rainbow Trout, Brook Trout, Green Sunfish, Longear Sunfish, Redear Sunfish, Redspotted Sunfish, Warmmouth, Rock Bass, White and Black Crappie, Blue Catfish, Channel Catfish, and once a silver shad. I have caught panfish barely larger than the lure to Bass over 4 pounds. All the Mepps products are winners. They are fantastic.

Mark Schreck – Farm Pond, Maryland

Lure: Comet Mino

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Trout, Rainbow

I felt compelled to give a testimonial on the "go-to" lure in my tackle box, the Mepps Comet Mino. I have been fishing with this lure for 35 years and it never fails to catch fish when nothing else will. I have caught many species including: Bass, Catfish, Bluegill, Perch, Trout, and Crappie. It works in ponds, rivers, lakes, and streams. In short, if I only had 1 lure to fish with, it would be the Mepps Comet Mino! Thank you for all your quality products!

Dustin Wyatt – Private Ponds, Streams And Rivers Of Central TX, Texas

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel

This is the #1 lure that I recommend to family and friends. I have 3 tackle boxes full of lures and I find myself catching so many fish with the dressed Aglia that I don't use anything else other than the occasional worm just to mix things up. I catch bluegill on size 0 and 1 and largemouth on #2-#5. Channel cats will even bite occasionally. The only difference is that bigger lures seem to be attacked more ferociously. Since my wife bought me my first "squirrel tail" with a gold blade in 1999, I have produced more fish than ever before. Now that my kids are old enough to fish, I am just going to go purchase a selection of Mepps lures and use the extra money and time on our fishing adventures. Thanks for the countless memories!

Mark Mehrens – San Marcos River, San Marcos, Texas

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Catfish, Channel

I have not caught a catfish in 10 years as I fish for bass, yesterday I caught 8 of them along with a mess of bass. Was one of the best fishing days ever.

Tom Disharoon – Potomac River, Maryland

Lure: Comet Mino

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel - Perch, Yellow

This is the best lure ever. I have them in all sizes, even a few that used to belong to my dad. They have the best feel in the water, you can tell when a fish is even thinking about eating it. I will have this lure in my box 'til I'm in one.
Thanks
Tom D.

Tj Marks – Brashears Creek Spencer County , Kentucky

Lure: Thunder Bug

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Carp - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black)

These lures work! Ive never had a catfish hit harder then they do with these. Cast them toward cover and let them settle before you reel. If the fish are feeding its a guaranteed strike.

Niko Bartash – Potomac River, Washington DC, District of Columbia

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Smallmouth - Catfish, Channel

Tried this out in a shallow part by the rapids in the Potomac River, and it worked great! First, I caught a 16 inch smallmouth followed by a smallmouth of about 3-4 inches, and then finally to my great surprise a 22 inch catfish! This was using the size 1 Black Fury with the Chartreuse Dots and Yellow Dots/Yellow Dressed treble.

Dallas Morrison – Little Valley, New York

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel - Perch, Yellow - Sunfish (shellcracker)

I got my my first Mepps lure last year because I ran out of lures and needed some new ones. It was one of the best decisions I've made getting one. I got the Aglia Plain Treble Hot Firetiger #1. I caught easily over 50 largemouth bass with around 20-25 of them all over a foot long last season. The largest of the season was 18 inches. So far this fishing season I have caught over 30 and around 20 have been over a foot long with the longest around 17 inches. I've caught 2 channel catfish both around 13 or 14 inches, one this season, one last season. I've e caught 2 perch this year both around 11 inches long and I've caught 2 small bluegill this season, none last season. I only have that one lure and it has never disappointed me. I want to get a few more that are a little bigger for some bigger fish. This has to be the best lure in the world. I can't wait to try all the different types.

Danny – Private Pond Brenham , Texas

Lure: Thunder Bug

Fish Caught: Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel

I used a Mepps Thunder Bug 00 Cricket color to catch 8 bluegill and 1 channel catfish. This was the best day I have ever had using an artificial lure. I tried several other Mepps Thunder Bugs in different colors, but came up empty. This 00 size allowed me to fish close to structure without hanging up in it. I will be buying more Thunder Bugs in the future. Awesome lure!

Fisherman Bob – Atchison County State Fishing Lake, Kansas

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Catfish, Channel

Every year I catch channel catfish on various Mepps spinners. Catfish bait fisherman can't believe it. One day I got to Atchison SFL early. There was a guy sitting on a picnic table, had been camping. I walked up and caught a nice 5lb channel on my first cast. He walked over to some other campers and said "did you see that guy catch a catfish on his first catch? I've been fishing all night without even a nibble." You never know what fish will hit a Mepps.

Brian – Troy, Missouri

Lure: Aglia Marabou

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White)

It has been awesome for me on largemouth, bluegill and crappie.

Jeffrey Voss – Rock Creek, Imperial, Missouri

Lure: Little Wolf

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Walleye

About a month ago, I placed an on-line Mepps order for several spinners. Through a fabulous Mepps promo, I received 2 free "Little Wolf" spoons which I used for the first time yesterday; and what a day!
I had about 2 hours to kill after work, so I decided to hit one of my favorite little streams close to home.
I started out fishing my normal "go-to" lure (a Mepps #1 Aglia Long), and was catching my fair share of fish, when I came to a slightly deeper stretch of water. I was just about to tie on a bottom bouncing lures of some kind, when I rememebered that I had my new "Little Wolf" with me, and thought, "now's as good a time as any to give 'em a try". - Boy, am I glad I had that thought. I caught all of the above mentioned species and then some. I also landed a couple of sauger, and a few spotted bass (one of which was about 2 pounds). In about an hour-and-half, I landed somewhere in the vicinity of 40 fish in all on this lure.
The Mepps "Little Wolf" certainly made a believer out of me, and has been added to my list of favorite lures.

Frank Benning – Waterford MI, All Lakes, Michigan

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Bowfin - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Perch, Yellow - Pickerel - Pike, Northern - Sunfish (shellcracker)

I use the #3 squirrel tail/silver blade, along with some custom made Mepps. I always have at least one pole with it on, sometimes 3 poles. I outfish everyone with this lure alone.

Dan Barnes – Van Etten, Michigan

Lure: Gulf Stream Fishing Shirts

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Catfish, Channel - Walleye

My daughter got me one of these shirts for Fathers Day. It is one of the most comfortable shirts I have ever had, and just like Mepps lures the quality is incredable. It is great on those really hot days because it has a good ventilation system. My favorite shirt and it won't be my last one either.
