Largemouth Bass Testimonials

Eric Askerud – Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota, Minnesota

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bowfin - Musky - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Walleye

Hands down my go-to lure catches everything from perch to muskie! Everytime I fish in a group it out fishes all other lures at least 2 to 1! Thanks Mepps!

DAVID FAUST – Gasport, New York

Lure: Magnum Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bowfin - Musky - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Walleye

I was fishing at Wellers Bay Saturday 07/08/2017 for pike and walleye when I caught a 50 inch musky on a Mepps Comet #5 BRASS. It took probably 1/2 hour to get in his head only fit in my small net . I had to wear him out and finally had his head in the net and grabbed his tail also, to get him in the boat . I don't take my phone with me when I am up there (so I have no picture ) I was shaking with excitement for day's .

Jeff Mazzenga – Lake St.Clair, Michigan

Lure: Panfish Pocket Pac - #0 Aglia Dressed

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Musky - Pike, Northern

Black Fury #3 Hot Firetiger with chartreuse dressing is my go to lure! Whenever I need to pick just one lure to have on me at all times that is it. No matter what time of day or night I have had great success. From Northerns and Musky to Bass and even perch.

Bob Scriven – Great Sacandaga Lake, New York

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Crappie (Black) - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Walleye - Catfish, Bullhead (brown, yellow & black)

I love my dressed aglia with a copper blade and black tail. I catch all kinds of fish with this thing. All of my friends don't believe me when I tell them I catch so many fish, until I take them out on my boat and show them. Once they see how many and how fast I catch them they all want to know how to get their own lure. So I tell them to get on the Mepps website and order their own. I have a lot of aglia lures with all different color blades and tails, but it seems the fish just can't resist the copper and black. Thanks Mepps for making fishing so much fun!!!

Chuck Wechsler – South Carolina

Lure: Comet Mino

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Pickerel

"In my experience, the best and most versatile lure for fishing dark-water rivers and creeks in the South is the Mepps Comet Minnow. This little lure is deadly on largemouth bass, crappie, bream, warmouth, and pickerel, or what we call jackfish in the South. Truly an awesome lure. - Chuck Wechsler, editor, Sporting Classics magazine

Matt Corliss – Upper And Lower Peninsulas, Michigan

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bowfin - Musky - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Walleye

The Mepps #3 gold with the brown tail is by far my favorite lure in my tackle box. I will not head out fishing if I don't have one. I have caught all of the fish listed above on a gold #3 with a brown tail. I typically target Northern pike, but will frequently catch Bass, and other fish, unintentionally. The best pike I ever caught was around 40 inches, but I have caught countless others over the years. Whenever someone asks my advice on fishing, I recommend the Mepps #3 and tell them that is all they will ever need.

Glenn Miller – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Lure: Aglia Marabou

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Musky - Trout, Rainbow

Mepps spinner baits have always been a consistent fish catcher. I regularly use the Comet to catch bass and crappie. This past Easter I used a number 5 Aglia dressed and hooked a 40" musky. You can't go wrong with Mepps spinners.

Clint Reinhart – Bucks County, Pennsylvania

Lure: Double Blade Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Musky - Pickerel

Awesome lure! Has caught a variety of fish and always attracts the large fish!

Aidan Baumstark – Califon, New Jersey

Lure: Double Blade Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, Striped - Pike, Northern - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Lake - Trout, Rainbow - Walleye

This is possibly the greatest fishing lure ever devised, it can be fished deep, shallow, fast or, slow. I caught my personal best bass, my personal best pike, and my personal best trout on this lure. I have never had a better lure than this, the next time that I see this lure I will buy 10. Thank you, Mepps!

Robbie Burns – Lake Fryer, Texas

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Walleye - Barracuda

I bought the lure being a little skeptical seeing not very many reviews or product testing; even on YouTube there wasn't much. I bought the Black Fury in sizes 1,2 and 3. The number 2 & 3 are awesome! It's almost every other cast you'll get something on the Black Fury. The catch was almost 3lbs and I just recently caught an 8lb largemouth. It's an awesome lure and is a fish magnet. A must have for anybody who loves to throw a lure around.

Kevin – Culver Lake Branchville, New Jersey

Lure: XD

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, Striped - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Perch, White - Perch, Yellow - Pickerel - Barracuda

The dressed XD size 3 with white (silver blade) and yellow (gold blade) is a killer for the hybrids. I tend to troll with these lures and it doesn't take long. It also attracts all the other fish in the lake. If it wasn't for the pickerel I wouldn't need to order so many of these :)

Ronald Jankowski – Allegany Ny, New York

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Crappie (Black) - Pike, Northern - Trout, Rainbow - Walleye

I remember I showed up to a spot my friend showed me and I really wasn't sure what kind of fish were in this pit. I just had a gold undressed Mepps number 2 size spinner on and I threw it in the corner of this pond. Next thing ya know I thought I had a big snag, but, sure enough I reeled in a 36" northern pike...

Michael Colamarino – Cold Spring, New York

Lure: Comet Mino

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Sunfish (shellcracker)

I bought the Mepps Rainbow trout Comet Mino on Saturday 4/23 and I went fishing 4/24. I went to a spot I never caught fish at. I was really just using it to shake the rust off and it was a real open spot so I wouldn't get tangled or caught on anything. So I get there and there are three other people fishing. I ask "Hey, you guys catch anything" They said "No we haven't" They were there an hour before me. So I set up shop and I cast out "bam" big sunfish, probably the biggest I ever caught. Then, I cast out two more times, bam! Caught a largemouth bass. These guys were looking at me upset and asked what I was using, I told them. I ended up catching 5 total on the day at a spot I never caught fish at before.

Mark Bell – Harwood Lake , Farmersville , New York

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Perch, Yellow - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown

The lure I reach for first, no matter what I am fishing for is a Gold size 1. It's always catching me trout at the small lake near where I live, catching my limit, even when those right near me are catching nothing. I like how it makes me look like a great fisherman by just knowing the right lure to use. People ask me what I am using and I just tell them to switch to a Mepps spinner. You made Mepps my favorite lure when you first sent me your Fishing Guide 20 years ago and I have been using them and catching fish ever since.

Lure: Little Wolf

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (Black) - Perch, Yellow - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown

Have been using Mepps all my life. But, when I first bought a Little Wolf, it was gold. It became one of my favorites. First day I used it while fishing at a small lake near where I live in western New York, I caught 3 largemouth bass,at least 5 bluegill, a couple of crappie, and 4 brook trout in about a hour. I then passed it on to my wife so she could catch some fish, since the live bait she was using had only caught her a couple of bluegill. This gold Little Wolf and others that I have bought this season, have been producing every time.

Mark Bell – Rushford, New York

Lure: Little Wolf

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (White) - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Trout, Brown

Great lure! Fishing small lake with 1/8 gold for less than a 1 1/2 hours and caught 4 largemouth bass, 3 brook trout, couple of crappie, and at least a half-dozen bluegills. Have also used in Creek to catch trout. Have always fished with Mepps, but, have a new favorite now.

Eric D Silva – Mount Juliet, Old Hickory Lake, Tennessee

Lure: Basser Kit - Plain Lure Assortment

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, Striped - Crappie (Black)

I'm a 26 year old kayak angler. My dock is in my backyard on Old Hickory Lake. I'm a bass man and so is my 7 year old son...

Josh Scharp – Ore Lake, Hamburg , Michigan

Lure: Double Blade Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Pike, Northern

My fishing partner Steve and I tried over ten other lures to catch pike we knew were in his lake. Once we found the Mepps Double Bladed Aglia black spoon with gold skirt we finally started catching instead of just fishing. Both of us have caught over 5 pike over 30 inches and I caught a 40 inch monster that I'm very proud of. The Mepps Double Blade by far has outperformed the rest of the lures on the market designed to catch these stealthy monsters. Our lake is small but the pike are huge if you can get em to bite and this bait has shown us both how me pis stands alone in a dependable lure. The pike we don't get to hit follow this lure all the way to the boat on many occasions. That in itself makes fishing exciting and interesting.
Thanks Mepos for making another fine lure.

William Porciello – Plymouth, Connecticut

Lure: Timber Doodle

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth

Well, my buddy had live minnows. I had the Mepps Timber Doodle 1/4 oz silver with the 4" white split Double Tail Grub. We're on a drop-off casting into the open weed pockets letting the Doodle fall on its own. He would pull up a bass on live bait and I would, too. We went catching doubles for a while then the Timber Doodle decided enough was enough and pulled ahead on the numbers of bass caught. They stopped hitting the live bait and the Doodle stayed working. I didn't want to ruin my buddy's fishing trip, but, he learned a lesson about using quality lures. I did nothing but add a shot of bass scent and let it dance down in the weed pockets. Now, asks me, you don't have a few Timber Doodles yet? You haven't ordered it yet?
It's weedless and a fish catcher. It's skill that catches fish, not luck. The Timber Doodles make me look good every time I use them. You have to try this.

Cyril E Sanderson – Private Pond, Kansas

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth

It was another tough, tough day at a private pond near my in-laws. The conditions couldn't have been worse and after 1.5hrs and only 3 fish to my name...I was ready to throw in the towel. I threw just about every lure I could think of that would work in shallow weedy conditions and was ready to throw in the towel until I remembered how easily it was to keep an Aglia right above the weeds in this shallow water.

I started throwing a Silver Dressed Aglia #4 and caught a fish on the very first catch. To prove it wasn't a fluke, I went from catching 3 fish in an hour and a half to 20 Largemouth Bass per hour and even a couple of hawgs. I don't know what it is about this lure, but this is definitely not the first time this lure has saved my fishing day.

Exact same situation December 2014. I caught absolutely nothing in nearly 2hrs and my Silver Dressed Aglia #4 immediately began catching me 16x Largemouth bass per hour.

This is the real deal, folks!

Noland Michels – St. Lawrence River, Wellsley Island, New York

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Perch, Yellow - Pickerel - Pike, Northern - Walleye

Whenever I go out fishing anywhere I always make sure I carry AT LEAST 2 Black Fury's dressed. My personal preference is Black/Chartreuse in a #5. I have caught countless Northerns on these (and I only retire them after the paint and stickers are mostly shredded off by teeth marks). I currently have 3 of them with all of the paint stripped off and another on the way. They produce bar none. I had a fishing competition just this past week. Fishing was real rough as only 4 Northerns were caught. 3 of them were by me with the Black Fury. I have never gone out with this lure and not caught a fish. I am amazed at the successfulness of this lure and highly recommend it to all of my friends and anyone else who is reading this! Mepps has my loyalty and money for life!

Jonathon Satala – Illinois , Illinois

Lure: Musky Marabou

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Musky - Pike, Northern

I have used many inline spinners and was going to start building my own because most musky spinners use a regular skirt or tinsel, I decided to try the Mepps Musky Marabou in Hot Firetiger(orange yellow and green.) Much to my surprise musky wasn't the only fish we caught with it, we caught plenty of pike on it also, but the biggest surprise was when I caught 4 largemouth in 4 consecutive casts and the smallest was 3-1/2 pounds and the largest was just over 6lb; for Illinois waters that is a rare fish on a bait for musky!!! After that day, I set my mind not to buy all the components to make my own cause the Musky Marabou is what I would use as a template, maybe when I get some free time I may build some, but for now my 16 Musky m
Marabous I bought have been doing the trick. I would recommend the bait to people but the downside is the Marabou loses the colors relatively quickly and after a number of fish the Marabou comes undone. I wish they would sell a Musky Marabou with a quick connect so you could change marabou colors, like a gold blade with one all black and another tail section with all red or red and black. I wish they would sell just the marabou pieces by themselves, out of my 16 baits only 7 are still in good condition, the others are so worn there isn't enough marabou to even cover the 2 treble hooks or the marabou is so faded you almost can't tell the colors cause they're so faded. Make a Musky Marabou with a way to change the marabou and with a clevis to be able to switch blades and it would be the perfect lure, swap blades and colors quickly, charge a little more and put a different color blade and tail with each lure as most of us musky guys would buy them all up from you!! Thanks for a great lure and hopefully you take some of my advice and I will never build my own if I can buy a reasonably priced perfect bait

Dave Ray – D.o.d.ponds, New Jersey

Lure: Aglia BRITE

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth

I've fished this country from Florida to Alaska several times over. I've never caught more fish & more species with any other lure than my trusty Mepps #2 Aglia gold. My brother loves to hate it because I outfish him every time. But, eventually he puts it on.

Brian Kreutz – Madison, Wisconsin

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, Striped - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Crappie (White) - Perch, Yellow - Pike, Northern - Sunfish (shellcracker) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Rainbow - Walleye

I LOVE the Aglia spinners. My son and I use them as a "go to" lure for pretty much anything we fish for and ALWAYS have luck when we do. Thanks for making such an awesome product Mepps!!!!

Thomas Nichols – Bangor, Maine

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bass, Smallmouth

This is my go to lure, I love this lure, what more can I say, its a "killer". If you haven't tried one DO IT!! You will not regret it. Just pick the size you need. AWESOME!!

Seth Farley – Surry, Virginia

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Rock - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Bowfin - Crappie (Black) - Pickerel

I use the Mepps #3 or #4 gold spoon and white skirt. Man in the Tran will tell you its the best darn thing since Larry the cable guy. This lure will catch anything and everything. I out fish everybody. They be using all sorts of fancy doodads and whatnots but my simple Mepps always catch me more bigger better fish every time. I usually fish that Blackwater River its got alot of different type of fish and my one lure will catch them all. Before I found the Mepps, I couldn't get no more than an occasional bite. Now when I go fishing, I catch tons of fish. Thank you Mepps you made my fishing better.

Hunter – Pond In Windsor , South Carolina

Lure: Aglia Ultra Lites

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth

The first cast I threw out I caught a monster bass, so I use it every time I bass fish now.

Bob Hayett – Heritage Lake, Olathe, Kansas

Lure: Black Fury

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bass, Smallmouth - Bass, White - Bluegill (Bream, Brim) - Catfish, Channel - Crappie (Black) - Crappie (White) - Trout, Brook - Trout, Brown - Trout, Rainbow - Walleye

I have found that Black Furies work amazingly well in two situations: In and around rocky shorelines and reeling them fast over spawning fish. I caught nearly a ten pound largemouth last year right next to a rocky shore.

Ed Sanderson – Farm Pond, Stark KS, Kansas

Lure: Aglia & Dressed Aglia

Fish Caught: Bass, Largemouth - Bluegill (Bream, Brim)

I've caught many bass (and other fish) for many years on Mepps dressed Aglia lures.

One experience I recently had was a farm pond in SE KS. I fished for an hour in December and not a single bite. I put a Silver dressed Aglia #4 on my line and caught 16 largemouth bass in the next hour. 2 of which were easily over 4lbs.

It's a must-have lure for those tough days on the water.
